My Story

"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."  — John Muir

I am Pamela Gomez, the founder of Spotted Fish. I founded the company in Washington, DC during the pandemic. Spotted Fish was born of my living through difficult moments and circumstances. It came from my need to go outside to create art and photography to remind me to appreciate the positive in life and to keep my sense of humor.

My photography celebrates the beauty of nature and the world around us. Some of the collections I offer have a more personal history. They reflect struggles I have experienced. I would like to broaden public understanding and change people's thinking about them. My hope is that these collections will help and support others going through similar challenges.

As is common with many women, I recognized important things about myself later in life. For example, I learned at the age of 56, and very much to my surprise, that I have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), accompanied by depression and anxiety. For years, my ADHD was untreated and unrecognized. I did not realize I had it, and I am grateful to those who did and urged me to seek treatment.

For me, the diagnosis was a welcome development. Many of the struggles I had faced in my daily life were clear to me. Happily, my case is mild and today once adult ADHD is diagnosed, it is a condition that is easily treated with medication. It is one made manageable thanks to recent scientific breakthroughs, and a supportive and growing ADHD community.

Another aspect of myself I have come to understand is my sexuality. I am bisexual and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. I believe openness about the topic is vital because of the continued work that needs to be done to value diversity, and end discrimination and public scapegoating.

At Spotted Fish, it is important for us to speak up for ourselves and the environment. We believe in working to open opportunity to all to foster tolerance and respect for the dignity of family, neighbors, and vulnerable communities. I hope you will join me in supporting these. Hopefully, being part of a larger community of people who value these things will be welcome.
